Founded in 1988 by artistic director Mathura Kalauny, Kalayan Theatre Group is Bengaluru’s oldest Hindi theatre collective. Known for artistic excellence and emotional depth, it has staged acclaimed productions in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Dubai, nurtured actors who went on to television and cinema, and continues to foster new talent through workshops. With a vibrant audience of young professionals, Kalayan keeps Hindi theatre alive through performances, readings, and cultural exchange.
Kalayan Theatre Group has staged a diverse repertoire of acclaimed productions, including Mera Dushman Manto, Nishkasit, Kayapalat, Priyadarshi Ashok, Jo Peechhe Rah Jaate Hain, Kab Tak Rahain Kunwaare, Ashad Ka Ek Din, Ek Aur Dronacharya and Jod Tod.
Kalayan Patrika is the literary wing of our collective — a vibrant canvas for members and the wider community to share stories, insights, and creative expression. Under the stewardship of Managing Editor Mathura Kalauny, the publication archives our cultural journey through original articles, short stories, satire, plays, and contemporary Hindi poetry.

Theatre is a crucible of creativity and emotions. It is where it dawns upon us that changing ourselves is the only real option we have.
In his 30 plus years of experience with theatre, Mathura Kalauny has dealt with the whole gamut of human emotions. Ego, low self-esteem, incompatibility, poor leadership quality, shyness, pettiness and fear of being discovered are some of the issues.
To address these issues, he designs and conducts workshops under the umbrella of 'Kalayan Theater Workshop' (KTW), with the tagline 'Unlock Individual Potential'.
